Scattered among Iraq, Syria, Iran, Turkey, Armenia and Georgia, the Yazidis are a small population which, although part by language and tradition of Kurdish history and world, has some specific traits that distinguish it. On 3 August 2014, fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq occupied Sinjar, a region in northern Iraq less than 15 kilometers from the border with Syria.
Thus began the Yazidi genocide: for men the choice is between death and conversion, while for women there is no choice: they will be deported, raped, enslaved and sold.
