Akram Aylisli

An Azerbaijani writer defies in solitude his government by publishing a book about Armenians

Azerbaijani writer, he has published works translated all over the world. He saw his life changed in 2013 after the release of his novel "Stone Dreams". The book is about the pogroms carried out by the Azeris against the Armenians and speaks of the importance of dialogue. His works were burned by the Azerbaijani intelligentsia. A bounty of $13,000 was promised for anyone who cut off his ear. Aylisli was later blocked at Baku airport. Since then he has lived in Baku in a sort of house arrest and cannot leave the country. He will be honoured at Milan Garden of the Righteous on March 3, 2023.
