Two new Righteous in the Garden of the Good in Jordan

Today in the Garden of the Good in Jordan - created in 2017 by Gariwo and EcoPeace Jordan with the support of the Italian Embassy in Amman, two trees were dedicated to two people committed to the rescue and assistance to migrants and refugees.

Vito Fiorino, professional carpenter with a passion for fishing, in the night of 3 October 2013 he rescued from drowning 47 people, welcoming them on his boat that was anchored off the Island of Lampedusa, where he has long spent the greater part of the year to practice his favourite sport.

Jehad Mattar, former commander of the Jordan army, is currently Director general of the government agency in charge of the management and coordination of the camps of Zaatari and Azraq for the Syrian Refugee Affairs Directorate - SRAD.

The ceremony, held to mark the Day of the Righteous of the Humanity 2019, was attended by a representative of the Italian Embassy, the Governor of the Northern region Rakan Al Qadi, the Director ofEcoPeace Jordan Yana Abu Taleb, and Gariwo representative Manuela Rippo.
