The event started with a conference on the meaning of the Garden of the Righteous realized in Palazzo Salerno’s green areas. Our intention is to keep alive and honor the remembrance of those soldiers who fought, even risking their own lives, in order to save human lives from persecutions and genocides. The High Commander of the Italian Army, Pietro Serino, along with local authorities, attended the conference. Moreover, there have been the speeches of Gabriele Nissim, Gariwo Foundation’s President, Lucio Romano, a former Senator of the Italian Republic's XVII legislature, the historian Giovanni Cecini, the professor Giovanni Cerchia and the Colonel of the Historian Office in the High Command of the Italian Army, Fabrizio Giardini.

After the conference, the inaugural event of the “Garden of the Military Righteous” was organized, with a symbolic cutting of the ribbon. The first Righteous to be honored in the Garden have been: General Maurizio Lazzaro de’ Castiglioni; Captain Benedetto De Beni; Major Arturo Gatti; Sergeant Rinaldo Arnaldi; Soldier Fosco Annoni; Colonel Giuseppe Azzali; Colonel Antonio Bertone; General Giuseppe Amico.
