The  Memorial is carved in the form of a broken star of David. It is situated near the Synagogue in Melidoni Street, where the Jews were trapped and captured by the Nazis, and near the ancient cemetery where Pericles delivered a funeral oration in honour of the Athenians killed during the Peloponnesian War, a  crucial speech in the development of democracy. As set within a garden, the monument not only commemorates the annihilation of the Greek Jews, but it is a symbol of rejuvenation.
