The foundation was formed in 2004, inspired by an episode of solidarity that had led the community of Nonantola to welcome and support 73 young Jews, from Germany, Austria and Yugoslavia, sixty years earlier.

Fondazione Villa Emma conducts historic research, holds lectures and seminars; it promotes cultural events focusing on the history and memories of the Second World War, on current conflicts, on dialogue between different social, religious and ethnic groups and on inter-cultural issues; it fosters relations and exchanges with institutions, both in Italy and abroad, that follow similar lines of research, in order to collect and document the most important results of their studies.


Multimedia productions set up to present characters, stories, places, events which marked the history of Europe and its neighbouring regions.

Wefor is our Website dedicated to the figures of moral resistance against totalitarianism. The virtual Gardens of Europe’s Righteous and the teaching section YouFor are the core of this project realized by Gariwo, the forest of the Righteous. Through the establishment of the European Day of the Righteous by the Brussels Parliament, Wefor has received its highest recognition.
