It was founded in 1998 upon the will of the highest State authorities with the task of carrying out historical research on Communism and prompt reflection on the responsibilities in the Nazi and Communist totalitarian dictatorships. It remembers the victims of both regimes, promotes the patriotism embodied in the struggle against the occupiers and brings out the pro-democracy and dignity commitment of Polish citizens. The Institute develops an intensive scientific and teaching activity both at the central and at the local level, holds exhibitions and denounces the crimes against humanity committed by Nazis and Communists on Polish soil.  


Multimedia productions set up to present characters, stories, places, events which marked the history of Europe and its neighbouring regions.

Wefor is our Website dedicated to the figures of moral resistance against totalitarianism. The virtual Gardens of Europe’s Righteous and the teaching section YouFor are the core of this project realized by Gariwo, the forest of the Righteous. Through the establishment of the European Day of the Righteous by the Brussels Parliament, Wefor has received its highest recognition.
