Former Rwanda's army chief Augustin Bizimungu was sentenced to 30 years for taking part in the genocide. According to the prosecution, Bizimungu led the men who were involved in the massacre started in the night of 6 April 1994. The former chief of the army was arrested in Angola in 2002.
Also the chief of the paramilitary police, Augustin Ndindiliyimana, was convicted by the Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR). The man was release since he has already served 12 years.
20 years jail were handed down also to two officers, major Francois-Xavier Nzuwonemeye and captain Sagahutu, for ordering the murder of Prime Minister Agathe Uwilingiyimana.
