Gariwo Foundation congratulates with the Norwegian Nobel Committee for awarding the Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi with the Nobel Peace Prize 2023 “for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all”. Mohammadi was honored as a Righteous by Gariwo and her biography can be read on the Encyclopedia of the Righteous.
Sentenced to 10 years in prison by a kangaroo court, Narges is imprisoned in Teheran at the moment. “We ask the Italian government a strong and effective commitment for the Narges' release in Iran. Italy should be in the front line and work to convince the international community to put pressure on Teheran for the liberation of this extraordinary woman”: Gabriele Nissim, President of Gariwo Foundation. “Our dream is to have her with us at Milan Garden of the Righteous for the next Day of the Righteous ceremony”.
Since the start of the protests due to the murder of Mahsa Amini, Gariwo works deeply for telling the stories of the Iranian Righteous through the Encyclopedia of the Righteous and promotes strong impact initiatives, such as the dancing flash mob - organized alongside the Iranian association Maanà - at the Milan Garden of the Righteous.
Maanà Association presented the application for honoring Narges Mohammadi as a Righteous at the Garden of Milan during the 2024 ceremony. “Our dream is to have Narges among us in that occasion” Gabriele Nissim states.
