Since 1986, Maria Quinto - a teacher on leave - is engaged in providing migrants with services promoted by the Sant'Egidio Community. In particular, together with Daniela Pompei, Maria Quinto is the coordinator of the humanitarian corridors project. The last one they have organized was from Lebanon: it enabled Syrian refugees who were coming from the conflict-affected areas of Aleppo and Homs and who had sought protection in the refugees camps along the border with Syria to flee towards safety.
Maria Quinto, who is the founder of the movement "Genti di Pace", is also promoting the integration of migrants by teaching them the Italian language, providing for first reception services and offering legal advices. She is also a member of the Immigration Zoning Board of the Rome Prefecture, of the Asylum National Board and of the technical board for the programming of immigration flows at the Ministry of the Interior.
