Tanks shelled some areas of the town of Homs, Syria's third-biggest town and crucial point in the protests against President Bashar al-Assad's government, says a human rights activist, Mr. Najati Tayrara: "Homs is shaken by the sound of the blasts carried out by tanks and heavy artillery". According to Al Jazeera the clashes led to the death of 9 demonstrators.

Syria, 800 deaths. Crackdown continues
According to the BBC "The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says 621 civilians and 120 security personnel have been killed since demonstrations pro-democracy protests began in March. Another Syrian rights group, Sawasiah, says more than 800 civilians have been killed".
