The Menorah from Anticoli Award
On European Day of Jewish Culture, The Holocaust Library in the Italian town of Fiuggi decided to award Gariwo with the Menorah from Anticoli prize (named after the ancient city toponym in force until 1911) "for its civic, cultural and teaching commitment and devotion to the memory of those who rescued the persecuted during genocide cases and who still nowadays defend human dignity trampled on in totalitarian systems".
The ceremony of awarding of the prize will take place on Sunday 6 September at 11, in the Council Room of the City Hall of Fiuggi.
Within the framework of the European Day of Jewish Culture, which this year is dedicated to "Bridges and Crossing Points", commemoration of Khaled Fouad Allam, the Algerian writer passed away in past June, was held.
This event, promoted by the Giuseppe Levi Pelloni Foundation and the Holocaust Library of Fiuggi, entered its third year of existence and is dedicated to Jewish personalities and institutiions. In 2013 honours (consisting on a stone reproduction of the Menorah from Anticoli realised by sculptor Luigi Severa) were bestowed on the Keren Keyemet LeIsrael Foundation (KKL), for its commitment for ecology. Last year instead they were bestowed upon painter Eva Fischer, on the Day devoted to Women in Judaism.
