Human rights and crimes against humanity

The Israeli Palestinian Conflict – A Joint Problem-Solving Approach

I am proud to say that the Joint Problem-Solving approach and the win-win perspective is leading our vision and projects at the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation. Cooperation in medicine, education, business, entrepreneurship and the environment between Israelis and Palestinians and between Arabs and Jews within Israel is what we do every day in order to achieve peace and coexistence. But the Peres Center does not deal with the political aspects, and so we need that kind of approach to come from our politicians. Seeing the human side of the other, even during painful conflicts, is crucial in order to keep our morals as human beings.

Being Righteous in a world marked by Covid

The health crisis the whole world had to deal with places each of us in front of decisions that can change the destiny of our planet: individual destiny is actually linked, today more than ever, to that of all human beings. Since the very beginning of the pandemic, it has been clear that the virus has not only affected our health and our habits, it has also exacerbated crises and scenarios that were already dramatic and sensitive. In all this, the example of the Righteous keeps being the therapy showing us the path to be followed. But who are these exemplary individuals and what are they doing today in new scenarios stemming from the epidemic?

Atmosphere of conflict in Lesbos

As a citizen of Lesbos, I am trying to save my dignity. You can’t imagine how ashamed some of us are of what is happening. The situation almost seems to be a civil conflict, a terrible reality. Daphne Vloumidi, Lesbos hostess, Righteous of hospitality at Milan Garden of the Righteous Worldwide.

THE TRACE OF DICTATORSHIP. WHAT IS HAPPENING IN CHILE?

A friend from Santiago sent me a message in the middle of the night. Saturday night, 1:15 am: “Pietro, have you seen what is happening in Chile? There are soldiers on the street and a curfew has been imposed from 10 pm to 7 am. A protest has started for the increase in public transport prices and then for all issues in the Paìs: health, education, social security. They have burnt buses, destroyed the subway, soldiers have already killed people on the street, hurt high-school youngsters.

Denis Mukwege, the champion of women in the world

Based on the experience of this Garden I would like to say that, among honoured individuals, Denis Mukwege can offer young people the highest moral example. I have never been before such an extraordinary man who makes us understand that evil can be overcome if one has faith not only in God, but also in humanity.

Crimes of genocide and against the humankind

the denial of the individual's value

The first legal definition in the domain of mass persecution dates back to 1915 and concerns the massacres of the Armenian populations perpetrated by the Turks, which were followed by the trials of the perpetrators before the Martial Court. In the Treaty of Sèvres in 1920 the Great Powers use the terms "crimes against civilization" and "crimes of lèse-humanity". In the aftermath of Second World War, face the Holocaust tragedy, the Military Tribunal of the Nurnberger Trials against Nazi officials started the proceeding by stating the crimes on which it was competent... On 9 December 1948 the General Assembly of the United Nations unanimously approved the Convention for the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide, which is considered as the most heinous crime against Humanity.
