The story of Wangari Maathai, first African woman to award the Nobel Peace Prize, for her “contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace”.
With the Green Belt Movement she promoted the planting of more than 30 millions trees in Kenya and in the other african States. "Women did not have firewood nor enough water - Wangari explains in the movie - so I told them 'why don't you plant trees?'. In a few time, communities empowered each other to plant trees for their own needs. When the women started, nobody bothered them, because nobody took them seriously. Then the government realized that we were organizing women, and they started interfering with our activities.
It is the people who must save the environment, people who must make their leaders change. So we must stand up for what we believe in".
