“Who is the Righteous?” is a project aimed at elementary school students located near the Garden of the Righteous of Warsaw. The goal of the project is to bring young people closer to the philosophy of the Garden of the Righteous by using a tool which can be interesting from a young person's point of view: a large-format board game created especially for the educational activities of the Foundation of the Garden of the Righteous of Warsaw. The first edition of the project was in 2023.
The workshops conducted with the help of the game were highly appreciated by both students and teachers, which convinced us of the validity of the chosen method. In the present edition of the project we have expanded our game to include new Righteous who have been honored with this title in the current year (Jacek Kuroń, Vivian Silver, Amer Abu Sabila e i fratelli Andrzej e Klemens Szeptyccy).
In making the first edition of the project, one of the main goals of the game mechanics was its universality, which allows this tool to be used many times over the years. This goal has been successfully achieved. To this end, we have trained educators working with the Foundation on how to work with this board game and use it during workshops. Each workshop lasts 3 hours of class time (120 minutes), and the game is a tool that summarizes the entire educational process, and its maximum duration is 1 hour of class time.
Through the implementation of this project, we have established very valuable contacts with teachers from schools near the Garden of the Righteous. Schools that participated in the workshops actively promoted the project, posting photos and reports on their social media and websites.
The game we created is also accessible to people with mobility disabilities. Educators who lead workshops in schools have also been trained to work with people on the autism spectrum, and prior to the workshops, we conducted interviews with teachers to ensure the accessibility of activities for students with special needs.
The entire project was funded through a grant received from the city of Warsaw.
