A new Garden of the Righteous was established in Pavia, in the green area of the Copernico High School. The inaugural event was held on February 22nd 2023, the same day of the presentation of Gabriele Nissim’s - the President of Gariwo Foundation - new book “Auschwitz never ends”.

The initiative, which was held in the presence of the entire school community, was concluded by the planting of the first tree dedicated to a Righteous to be honored in the Garden. The chosen one was Gino Bartali, who was honored with a plaque and an olive tree. The plant was donated by the Copernico’s Parents Association, which was represented during the event by the presence of Monica Venturini.

The principal of the High School, Donatella Penna - who had always strongly believed in the project - explained us how it was the first Day of the Righteous ever organized at Copernico High School, underlining at the same time how that remembrance day was an important part of several educational events of civic education that her school is accomplishing right now.
