Garden of Good in Jordan

The Garden of the Good has been inaugurated on October 30, 2017 thanks to the collaboration between Gariwo and EcoPeace Middle East, with the support of the Embassy of Italy in Amman. The Garden is located in the Sharhabil Bin Hassneh Eco Park, a nature reserve in the Jordan Valley created in 2004 by a group of volunteers who has renovated the area by providing eco-friendly facilities for hosting tourists and organizing educational activities for young people.

Seven trees have been planted in honour of Jordanian personalities who have distinguished themselves in the battle against terrorism and in defending the country's natural and cultural identity. Among them stands out Jordanian Moath Al Kasasbeh - the pilot of the Royal Air Force burned alive by ISIS terrorists after his plane was shot down in Syrian territory in January 2015.

The other trees have been dedicated to Wasfi Al Tal, the Prime Minister assassinated by Black September in Cairo in 1971; Rox bin Al Azizi, journalist author of numerous Jordanian cultural heritage books; Anis Mansour Muasher, founder of the Royal Society for Conservation of Nature; Ismail Khader, known as the Giant of the Jordanian song, and activists Zaha Jarnadaneh Manko, founder of a state-run child rights center and Haifa'a Al Bashir, the first woman to play the role of teacher in Jordan.

This Garden is the third created by Gariwo in the Middle East, followed by Neve Shalom - Wahat el Salam ("Peace oasis" in Hebrew and Arabic) in Israel in 2015 and Tunis in 2016.

In addition to the Gariwo Chairman Gabriele Nissim and the Ambassador Giovanni Brauzzi, the honoured family members, a representative of the Jordanian Ministry of Culture and local authorities, the Corriere della Sera's editorialist Antonio Ferrari and Munqeth Mehyar, director of EcoPeace Middle East, have taken part in the ceremony.
