In November 2005, upon suggestion of the Garden of the Righteous Worldwide Committee-Gariwo and the relatives of some persecuted people, the Milan City Hall dedicated Parco Valsesia to the memory of the Italian victims of the Gulag, by unveling a memorial stone in the presence of the relatives of the victims and the pupils of the town's schools.The ceremony was accompanied by a congress, which took place the day before, on 9 November, and was hosted in the Sala Alessi of Palazzo Marino (the ancient noble palace which is the seat of Milan City Hall) entitled as Omaggio alle vittime italiane del Gulag (Tribute to the Italian victims of the Gulag), whose speakers, after the greetings of the city authorities, were as follows:
Gabriele Nissim, Chairman of Gariwo, the forest of the Righteous
Elena Dundovich, professor of the Università di Viterbo
Anatolij Razumov, founder of the Martyrology of Levashovo, Saint Petersburg
and the testimonies of some relatives of the Italian victims, including Luciana De Marchi, Attilio Tonolo, Parisina Baccalà, Vladimiro Bertazzoni, besides Francesca Gori and Emanuela Guercetti who spoke on behalf of Memorial Italia.
