Palazzo Marino, Sala Alessi - Milan
Delivery of the scrolls to the Righteous honoured at the Virtual Garden

The Monte Stella hil Virtual Garden is enriched with new figures, messengers of the good that yesterday and today have made a gesture in defense of the others and of human dignity.

The parchment delivery ceremony, during which the motivations of the choice of each Righteous will be read - in his presence or in the presence of his representative -, will take place after the institutional greetings and speeches by Gabriele Nissim, president of Gariwo and Giorgio Mortara, UCEI vice president.

Thus, Adélaïde Hautval, the Righteous Among the Nations, who helped the Jews in the Birkenau camp, where she had arrived together with two hundred French prisoners in 1943, will be honoured; Andrea Angeli, an Italian UN official, the first in besieged Sarajevo, who under the bombardments worked to find and rescue the elderly Italian citizen Rosaria Bartoletti; Maria Bertolini Fioroni, teacher and educator who hid Jews in the Emilia Mountains, in Costabona; Father Nino Frisia, a missionary in Rwanda who saved young Tutsi girls during the genocide; Gherard Kurzbach, Wermacht's non-commissioned officer who saved 200 Jews in the Bochnia ghetto in Poland during the Second World War, hiding them in his workshop; Guido Ucelli and Carla Tosi Ucelli, a couple who hid the Jews and organized their expatriation in Switzerland, being arrested and imprisoned by the SS in the San Vittore prison; Ludwig "Luz" Long, an athlete who, under the enraged look of Hitler, at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, suggested the winning strategy to the black athlete Jesse Owens and did not hesitate to embrace him after the victory, thus becoming a universal symbol of sportiness; Mons. JP Carroll Abbing, who dedicated himself to the rescue of the persecuted of all kinds and for this he obtained from the Italian government the Silver Medal for Military Value; Giandomenico Picco, a UN official who has risked his life several times to save hostages in the Middle Eastern scenario, such as Hezbollah's western prisoners in Beirut; Sister Leonella Sgorbati, a nurse in Kenya and then in Somalia, founded a nursing school in the hospital run by SOS Children's Village and took care of the formation of other tutors in Mogadishu, where she was killed in 2007.

The ceremony is part of a series of initiatives organized by Gariwo for the Association Garden of the Righteous in Milan.
