On 6 March 2019, on the occasion of the European Day of the Righteous, the Garden of the Righteous was inaugurated in the Primary School "G.Gavazzi" in Desio.
The initiative was promoted by the teacher Alessandra Lavezzari and the Municipal Administration to honor the memory of the Righteous from Desio Ernesto Cattaneo, Elvira Colombo, Luigi Tagliabue and Angela Mariani. In the dark years of the Second World War, these women and men were able to respond to evil with acts of courage and solidarity.
The Garden of the Righteous, becomes for the entire city community an opportunity to make memory and commitment to always choose, in life, the way of good.
In the presence of Mrs. Fiammetta Cattaneo and Mrs. Agostina Tagliabue, family members of the Righteous Desians, two country steels were planted, native plants, symbols of modesty and strength, next to which were placed two commemorative plaques.
The students of the school reminded everyone who was present the good done by these citizens.
