Garden of Augusta

On March 22, 2022 the High School “Arangio Ruiz” inaugurated the first Garden of the Righteous in the district.

The first Righteous honored were: Giovanni Falcone, Paolo Borsellino and Felicia Bartolotta Impastato. During the ceremony don Paolo Liggeri was also remembered: the School officially requested to welcome his nomination as Righteous suggested by civil society. 

The ceremony involved the students and started with a flash mob in front of graffiti dedicated to Falcone and Borsellino, who fought against the Mafia. Following, the professors Rosanna Bellistri, Anna Borgese and Maria Grazia Cipolla moderated the speeches of the guests.

Virginia Armenio, students' representative, clearly described the sense of the Garden and the message that it represents: it has the power to connect the present with the past; remembering the gestures of the Righteous leads to reflect on other global issues and unveils the links among them.

The mayor Giuseppe Di Mare, the deputy mayor Tania Patania together with local authorities attended the eventi: Giuseppe Carrabino and Biagio Tribulato. Representatives of Police also attended the ceremony: Andrea Sotgiu, Paolo Cassia and Marco Naccarato. The organization fight against the Mafia“Libera, associazioni, nomi e numeri contro le mafie” with the local representative Rita Pancari attended the event, too.
