On June 18, 2025, the Gariwo Foundation – the Garden of the Righteous – took part in two official high-level events at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, as part of the 4th International Day for Countering Hate Speech, established by UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/75/309.
It was a great honor for Gariwo to be selected by the United Nations as a model of good practice in building ethical coalitions to counter hate speech. In a world increasingly marked by conflict, polarization and verbal violence – both online and offline – bringing the Memory of Good to the heart of international diplomacy means affirming the value of individual responsibility, care for others and active memory as tools for prevention and dialogue.
These events followed the memorandum of understanding signed between Gariwo and the United Nations Office on Genocide Prevention (UNOSAPG). In New York, the Gariwo delegation, led by President Gabriele Nissim, launched an appeal for the international recognition of the Day of the Righteous and for the creation of new Gardens of the Righteous in all UN member states.
