A message from Avraham Burg

emeritus President of the Israeli Parliament,

Here is the message of Avraham Burg, emeritus President of the Israeli Parliament, for Gabriele Nissim, the President of Gariwo.

Towards the approaching day of the righteous I - on behalf of many -  want to express our support of the great idea and its initiators. We strongly believe that humanity must have no limits, and that justice must be blind as to nationality, countries or politics around it.

Any hostility against innocent people requires other people to stand for them Righteous who endanger the lives and status in order to save them and humanity everywhere.
Righteousness of this kind should not be the monopoly of the Jewish people and its saviors only.

On the contrary, wherever there are crimes against humanity there were always other people of conscience and morality who risked their lives for the other, who is a stranger to them. On this special day we want to thank them for the great spiritual inspiration which actually brought them to this nobility and keep the humanism of us all.

We believe that the Israeli society, should become a strong supporter of your great idea.

Yours

Avraham (Avrum) Burg

The European Day of Righteous

The value of individuals and personal responsibility

On May 10, the European Parliament in Strasbourg adopted the Written Declaration establishing March 6th as European Day in memory of the Righteous.
The concept of Righteous, born from the elaboration of the Yad Vashem Memorial to remember the non-Jews who rescued the Jews, becomes the patrimony of all humanity.
The term "Righteous" is no longer confined to the Holocaust only; it becomes a point of reference for those who remember the genocide and totalitarianism in all their efforts to defend human dignity.

The significance of this decision is reminiscent of one of the cornerstones of European culture: the value of the individual and personal responsibility.
