The law about the Righteous, a matter of free choice

Editorial by Gabriele Nissim; translated by Carolina Figini

"The Righteous. Normality that rebels against evil"

The draft bill for the establishment in Italy of the Day in memory of the Righteous of the Humanity was scheduled to discussion in the First Committee. We talked about it with Milena Santerini, President of the Parliamentary Alliance against hatred and racism of the Council of Europe and promoter of the bill.

"My commitment to a law about the Righteous in Italy's Parliament"

"The memory of the Righteous calls everyone of us to his or her own commitment to democracy, fighting against racism and intolerance, countering any kind of violence and arrogance of man against the other men". We have talked about it with Emanuele Fiano, deputy and speaker of the bill at the First Committee.

Jewish in the city, a plaque for the Righteous

Start on Sunday 29 May of the third edition of Jewish and the city. Within the festival programme, an important initiative organised in cooperation with Gariwo: at  4 pm at the Central Synagogue in Via Guastalla, placement of a plaque dedicated to the Righteous worldwide.

Who Betrayed the Jews?

Agnes Grunwald-Spier is a distinguished member of Gariwo Scientific Committee. Born in Budapest in July 1944, she and her mother were sent to the ghetto there in November 1944, and were liberated in January 1945. This year she published Who Betrayed the Jews? a groundbreaking study that examines the various ways Jews were betrayed by their fellow countrymen during the Holocaust.

Cultural dialogue with the world

Visions and awareness

Gariwo, the Garden of the Righteous, has been working on the concept of the Righteous for many years, with the goal of spreading the awareness of the importance of exemplary figures, those who show how to build a future of peaceful coexistence. This is important especially for the young people, who look for reference points to which they can relate the fundamental choices of life.
In recent years the interest towards the Righteous has greatly increased and this paradigm of moral resistance is essential for the development of collective consciousness on major ethical issues of our time.
We believe that the involvemnet of youth, the school operators, the academic, intellectual, artistic, media and public  and private institutionsm is crucial to maintain and strengthen the cultural orientation, which takes this direction.
