We publish the declaration of Their Excellences Captains Regent of the Republic of San Marino, H.E. Gianfranco Terenzi and H.E. Guerrino Zanotti, about the third annual European Day of the Righteous.

The High Excellences the Captains Regent 

Express their support to the celebration of the European Day of the Righteous by whose purpose - recalling the great significance of the title of Righteous among the Nations bestowed by the Memorial Museum of Yad Vashem on those who helped the persecuted Jews during the Holocaust  - is to remind all institution and men and women who went to the rescue of human lives in the different situations of conflict, violence and prevarication, by defending human dignity and human rights.

The concept of Righteous has taken up over the years a universal value and today Righteous people are deemed to be all the individuals who, any time and every where, have been able to rescue the victims, defending the truth and disobeying discriminatory and unjust laws.

unite in commemorating all those who opposed genocide, crimes against humanity, totalitarianism and organized crime with an assumption of individual responsibility.

Support the initiatives aimed at keeping the memory of the accomplished Good and believe that the European identity can be founded above all on the acts of civil courage, generosity and selflessness that were - and still are - accomplished on a daily basis.

They moreover express their wish that the reflections promoted by the European Day of the Righteous can contribute to broader and broader an awareness of the importance of individual responsibility and civil courage, principles that states, male and female citizens can actualize in their own choices and deeds.
