On 10 May 2012 the European Parliament approved Written Declaration N. 03/2012 establishing the European Day of the Righteous. This celebration is held every year on 6 March, the day of the passing of Moshe Bejski, the "judge of Good" who was the great personality behind the creation of the Garden of the Righteous in Jerusalem.

During these commemorations the clashing memories of Europeans unite to remember those exemplary figures who saved human lives, defended the human dignity or bore witness to the truth about totalitarianism, genocide and crimes against humanity which have occurred under Nazism and Communism and keep on rearing their ugly heads in Rwanda, Darfur, today Syria and other countries.

On 6 March 2013 Gariwo, the forest of the Righteous has been able to create the synergies to set up a network of initiatives all over Italy and Europe. The first European Day of the Righteous was celebrated in Brussels, where Gabriele Nissim discussed the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews in the presence of the Israeli President Shimon Peres and the highest Bulgarian authorities; in Saint Petersburg, Prague, Warsaw, Sarajevo and many other towns, combining the exercise of civic duties and artistic and musical performances always in honour of those who have rescued the persecuted, defended the human dignity or born witness to the truth in the face of genocide, totalitarianism and crimes against humanity worldwide.
