The pleasure of killing in the name of God

by Gabriele Nissim

The cruel and savage execution of Kenji Goto Jogo, the Japanese journalist beheaded after four months of imprisonment, and his friend Yukawa Aruna, whom he had tried in vain to rescue from a horrible death, obliges us to say it’s enough.

The courage and selflessness of Goto, who did not hesitate to put his life to risk to rescue his friend, did not ignite any spark of humanity nor pity among the Isis executioners.

By shamelessly spreading the pictures of the behading on their Websites, fundamentalists launched the worst possible message to the world.

These integralist guerrillamen do not give a damn to the feelings of love and compassion among human beings, because for these scoundrels it is right to kill and torture people in the name of God.

What strikes us in the practice of Isis, differently from all executioners who committed genocide in the past century, is that these lads do not feel any shame about making their deeds public.

Even the Young Turks who exterminated the Armenians, or the very Nazis who planned the final solution, did not dare show their crimes to the world and tried to conceal the traces of their deeds. They murdered and slaughtered people, but they sought nearly in a scientific way to hide their misdeeds. It is from this attempt to hide evidence that stemmed the creation of the modern phenomenon of Holocaust denial, against which Primo Levi struggled to exhaustion for all his live to tell about his experience of Auschwitz in his books.

With Isis everything changes. Fundamnetalists like mediatic exhibitions of their criminal deeds and feel joy and pleasure at showing their corpses.

The pictures of beheadings, with the executioner thrusting his knife with macabre pleasure into the victims’ neck, have a great symbolic value.

Executioners want to show their followers that there is nothing better and more heroic than killing and exterminating the enemies of their project of a new society, be they Jewish, Christian, Curdish, Syrian, American or Westerner.

They expose themselves in the media not only to sow terror and dictate conditions and blackmail diplomacies, but also to incite young Moslems all over the world to commit without restraint massacres of those they deem to be infidel: killing and slaughtering people must become a reason of pride and personal satisfaction.

To show how naturali it is to them to murder people they even used children compelling them to pull the trigger of a gun against some prisoners, as if they were taking part in the most innocent game.

Isis trespassed all limits in the fantasy of evil.

The worst thing would be to get used to such horror without feeling any indignation.

Today the world appears as deeply divided among Russians and Americans, Turks and Armenians, Israelis and Iranians, pro-Russian and pro-Western Ukrainans.

Nonetheless such savagery should put an end to all divisions.

Jews, Catholics, Moslems, should all be united in the name of the basic defense of human dignity.

As in France millions citizens of all cultures and faiths took to the streets after the attacks to Charlie Hebdo’s Editorial Board, we wish there will be no Church,, synagogue or mosque in the world that remains silent in front of Isis’ deadly message.

Once again the future of a moral world is on the brink of the abyss.

If we fail to respond, if laziness, indifference, fear, division prevail, these new executioners will go on their way wreaking havoc again, like it has already happened in the past, when deadly messages turned into genocidal ideologies that charmed entire generations.

We cannot allow that so many young Moslems are enchanted by the call of the Isis. This is the stake of the game.
