Inauguration of the Righteous among Nations Square

Inauguration of the Righteous among Nations Square

On Sunday 5th March 2017, in occasion of the European Day of the Righteous, the Righteous among the Nations Square has been inaugurated in the community garden of Ravenna.

During the ceremony, eleven trees have been planted in honour of the acknowledged Righteous among the Nations of the province of Ravenna.

The Righteous honoured for their heroic actions towards the Jewish population are: from Bagnocavallo Antonio Dalla Valle, Aurelio Tambini, his wife Amelia Melandri and their children Rosita and Vincenzo Tambini; from Ravenna Giuseppina Frignani and her husband Pino Muratori; from Cotignola Luigi Varoli and his wife Anna Cortesi, Serafina Bedeschi and her husband Vittorio Zanzi. In addition, three trees have been planted in honour of the hundreds of rescuers of the province.

The event was initiated by the Cultural Circle Endas Garibaldi tra terra e mare and its chairman Lidiano Zanzi, and it was promoted by the municipality and the province of Ravenna.

A concert of ocarina and flute performed by Michele Carnevali and the choir of the primary school Mordani, with its orchestra leader Catia Gori, opened the ceremony.

On the occasion of the Holocaust Remembrance Day 2021, in compliance with the anti-Covid rules, an important event was held with the unveiling of a Mosaic, typical of the Ravenna School.
