Gabriele Nissim, President of Gariwo, forest of the righteous, has recently been chosen to receive the Golden Ambrogino by the city of Milan. This civic merit, named after the patron saint of the city, is a great honor and will be awarded to Nissim on December 7th, the day of St. Ambrose, at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan.

When chosen to receive the award, Nissim said,

“I would like to thank all of my friends who have supported my candidacy and the battles I have fought with Gariwo, the forest of the Righteous. It is important to teach young people the importance of genocide prevention as well as the prevention of all forms of totalitarianism and intolerance. We live with a taste for variety and know that there can be only one truth in the world and there is endless dialogue between men about this. A truth exists, but it has a face that changes with life. That’s why the Righteous are the first to understand when the world takes a turn for the worse, when someone wants to eliminate differences in the name of a single thought.”

The reason this honor was awarded to Nissim is important. It is given to the President of Gariwo for feeling personally responsible for the education of young people and desiring to put a end to harassment, discrimination, and persecution. In particular, the instution of the European Day of the Righteous is recognized. This was obtained from the European Parliament in May 2012 at the initiative of Gariwo. This made Milan the capital of Europe for the protection of moral values that characterize the collective identity of it’s people.

This has been supported by many important personalities from the world of culture and society in Milan including: Umberto Veronesi, Nando Dalla Chiesa, Don Gino Rigoldi, Andrée Ruth Shammah, Gabriele Albertini, Antonio Ferrari, Roberto Jarach, Emanuele Fiano, Gaetano Liguori, Vittorio Emanuele Parsi, Janiki Cingoli and Stefano Jesurum.
