Genoa

Genoa, with the creation of the Garden of the Righteous, was the third italian city, after Milan and Padua, to commemorate those who fought with civil courage against totalitarianism and genocide all over the world.

Yolande Mukagasana, survivor of the Rwandan Genocide and nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, Vera Politkovskaja, daughter to the Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaja, who was killed in 2006, and Mexico's Sandra Rodriguez Nieto, from El Diario of Ciudad Juarez, participated in the inauguration on 12 July 2011.

The three women received the honorary citizenship of Genoa.
