Discover the people honoured in the Garden

On 6 March 2016 the Garden of the Righteous of Bergamo was inaugurated in the Park Galgario, where there is already a memorial stone for Giovanni Palatucci, the police commissioner of Fiume who helped many Jews and foreigners to save themselves. 

The initiative was organised by the local administration in collaboration with Gariwo, the UNESCO, the Italy-Israel Association, Amnesty International and the University of Bergamo.

The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Bergamo Giorgio Gori, the authorities and the citizens. A poplar was planted in honor of the syrian archaeologist Khaled al-Asaad.

    birth of new Gardens of the Righteous

    The celebrations of European Day of the Righteous saw the participation of numerous Italian towns, which, through meetings, conferences, shows, documentaries, books and planting of new Gardens, have paid tribute to all those who have fought and still fight against genocide and to defend human dignity.
