The English publisher Chatto & Windus edited Yan Lianke’s new book, focused on the Great Famine years, between 1959 and 1961, that caused the death of millions Chinese victims. Dedicated to “all of those who have been forgotten by history”, the novel highlights the Chinese government responsibility and reaffirms the importance of memory, in a country where silence dominates even on scholastic programs.
