Gulag

Gulags are the concentration camps created and managed by the Soviet regime from 1918 to 1987 to punish political opponents and as instruments of a policy of terror - practiced in the USSR to maintain power and control over society.

The system began to be reformed only after Stalin's death in 1953, but it was finally extinguished only in 1987, with Mikhail Gorbachev.

Gariwo has collected stories, testimonies, materials and interviews by collaborating with scholars and associations such as Memorial Italia, to keep the memory alive and look up to the present.
