The Village of Neve Shalom Wahat al-Salam

A hill in Israel, half way between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. A dream that has taken roots on this hill since the beginning of the Seventies. A village bearing a Jewish-Arab name: Neve Shalom Wahat al-Salam. Which means “Oasis of peace”. By Giulia Ceccutti, Italy's Association Friends of NSWAS.

"Comics and memory: The Righteous Speak to Young People"

At Teatro Elfo Puccini of Milan, on 28 January at 9.30, event held by the Associazione per il Giardino dei Giusti, to which Gariwo belongs along with UCEI and Milan's City Hall, for Holocaust Memorial Day 2016. Guests are Lelio Bonaccorso, Maria Luisa Impastato, Lorenzo Randazzo and Luigi Bona.

How beautiful is plurality against evil

Why did Socrates claim not to know, when he talked with an Athenian? Because you cannot know in advance the opinion (doxa) of an individual unless you discuss with him humbly, because everyone has his or her own peculiar worldview, and can never be equalled to others. Gabriele Nissim comments upon Hannah Arendt's Socrates.

Teaching Activities about the Righteous 2015-2016

Within the teaching project “Adopt a Righteous”, the Associazione per il Giardino dei Giusti, in cooperation with Gariwo's Teaching Committee, for this year is going to involve teachers in a two-stage experience: first being introduced to the Garden of the Righteous and then watching a highly emotional theatrical show.

Uniting the Arab world against ISIS, under the sign of Goodness

Not only the Muslim civil society mobilized in Oslo to create a "peace ring" to protect the Jewish Community after the Copenhagen attacks. The Great Imam of Al Azhar also called for reform of religious teaching to counter extremism. A Spanish journalist pointed out these are all signs of the "senseless goodness" put forward by writer and Gariwo chairman Gabriele Nissim

Taking on the baton of memory

“Adopting a Righteous. A force for our future”. 500 students of the schools of Milan and its province have responded to the call launched by Gariwo, taking part in the events planned for Holocaust Remembrance Day together with Paolo Kessisoglu, Gabriele Nissim and Pietro Kuciukian.

Education

the Wefor-based teaching for keeping memory

Spreading the knowledge of the Righteous among young people is one of the main objectives of Gariwo. The most effective vehicle is keeping a tight relationship with schools, through teachers ready to be engaged with current issues in the formation of civil and moral conscience of the younger generation ...  Individual and collective memory is a fundamental element in the education of young people and a powerful tool in the hands of educators: that is why we talk about the educational memory as a tool of the construction of an identity.
Gariwo has been developing with educators, teachers, academics, intellectuals and associations, both in Italy and abroad, exchanging experiences, information and data processing, to be available to all operators of the training, in the form of educational projects, reflections, relationships, theoretical references, bibliography and news from the world of education ...
To indicate the Righteous as landmarks of European consciousness, with the project WEFOR we created the virtual teaching of Gardens in Europe, where the trees are planted for the Righteous from different countries; the entire section is devoted  to schools, with the title YouFor, in which the materials for teachers, the contributions of classes, processed and student research, as well as an extensive collection of media analysis are collected.
